Lockdown restrictions have sadly meant that we had to close our stores until further notice (again). It's a bitter pill, but one that all retail has had to swallow and rightly so - everyone's safety is of paramount importance right now. So, word is our Store Managers have been kicking back at home in their boxers, binge-eating Haribo and draining Netflix, with complete disregard for their personal hygiene and no idea what month, let alone what day it is.
Ok, so maybe a little artistic license there! In all honesty, they have been busy dealing with online orders, helping with the sale and the upcoming SS21 collection and all manner of other things, not least their own personal projects.
So with thought it timely to catch up with Jon, Steven and Koji to find out what they've been up to, but also what they've been stashing away from the Winter collection and the sale. They know the collections better than anyone, so if you're stuck for inspiration or need some advice, they are the guys to speak with. But don't take it from me...
Steven - Calvert Avenue, Shoreditch
What have you been up to recently Steven?
"I'd love to say I've been doing lots of really interesting projects but actually I've just been working loads! But from tomorrow I plan to get a couple of new books and spend my days running and my evenings reading - two things I'm ashamed to say I've neglected during this latest lockdown. Both are great for just clearing your mind and escaping your own head for a bit."
LINFIELD JACKET Was £349 | Now £192 |
BERMONDSEY BOMBER Was £379 | Now £190 |
CLERKENWELL TAB SHIRT Was £110 | Now £65 |
GRANDAD SHIRT Was £119 | Now £71 |
What are your favourite picks right now?
"I'm thinking ahead when it comes to my wardrobe because right now there aren't too many opportunities to go out and see people. So, if you were looking to add some pieces from the sale, I would think about some of the more transitional jackets, those blouson-style pieces that work really well right through spring. Our Linfield jacket in Penton Cord Ginger and the Bermondsey Bomber in Tamworth midnight are two such pieces that you'll be able to wear right up until it starts getting warm in late April or May. Then four months layer, you're getting them out again. Both of them are really textural in their own ways and just really easy-wearing pieces. Then I've picked a couple of transitional shirts in the form of the Clerkenwell Tab in Woburn Oatmeal and the Grandad shirt shirt in Waltham Multi. They'll layer well under tailoring right now, but will equally double up as casual overshirts come spring."
Koji - Berwick Street, Soho
What's been happening, Koji?
"I’ve been trying to repurpose some old wooden floorboard slats into a fold-out desk and chair. I'm having trouble with the chair, which is another way of saying it's bad, but the desk is coming along! I’ve sanded it back and it awaits two coats of varnish! I’ve been really enjoying the idea of finding things around the house and giving them a second, alternative life... but mostly I just reacquaint them with the bin."
TALBOT ROLL NECK Was £189 | Now £113 |
BOX T-SHIRT SANDERS Was £79 | Now £40 |
PLEAT TROUSERS Was £210 | Now £168 |
HALF ZIP SWEATSHIRT |
What are your favourite picks right now?
"One of my favourite pieces of knitwear in this collection is this Talbot rollneck cable knit. Super easy to wear with the navy pleat trousers and really does the job in this cold weather. The pleat trousers are a slightly looser cut than your standard straight leg trouser, but maintain a nice touch of formality with the tapered finish. That said you can wear them with a hoodie just as much as you can a blazer. The Box tee in Sander Green Multi is one of those tees that works year round. It's a really soft fabric and gives you a good injection of pattern and colour. Then the half-zip is one of those at-home pieces that you just reach for without needing to think."
Jon - Lambs Conduit Street, Bloomsbury
What's been keeping you busy Jon?
"I have been painting a little but mainly I've been sketching and reading whilst getting ready for a studio move and a new set of paintings, otherwise I'm trying to watch TV as much as possible and struggling to read proper books."
HOUSE HOODIE |
JUDO TROUSERS KINGSLEY Was £189 | Now £151 |
NEW YORK SPECIAL Was £119 | Now £57 |
SOLMS JACKET Was £369 | Now £221 |
What are your favourite picks right now?
"Well my everyday uniform has definitely taken a turn for the more casual, as I guess a lot of people's has, but I've refrained from wearing loungewear everyday. I'd rather mix it in with other pieces of casualwear, as you can probably guess from my picks. The house hoodie needs little explaining - a classic super-soft jersey piece that fits into any outfit. Similarly, the judo trousers in Kingsley Cord Black can be worn in a multitude of ways. The corduroy dresses them down a bit, as does the workwear silhouette. The New York Special is just a classic spread collar style you can wear year round, but I really like the green pinstripe detail in the summer especially. And finally the Solms jacket, a Spencer signature piece that you could legitimately layer with either the shirt or the hoodie in these weird times."
