The distant sound of wedding bells, an alluring chatter of nearby tables, a group of friends singing happy birthday in real life and not over Zoom… people are out! Calendars are finding their purpose once more as we start to see RSVPs flying out. Time to reach for suit bags, abandoned and hung away in the upper echelons of our wardrobes. If you had given up all hope of a summer soiree and now find yourself in need of a something smart to wear, this is where we come in while you polish up on social etiquette.
Our tailoring is unstructured and good to go, from weddings to bar mitzvah, you’ll be low-key upstaging wherever your attendance is required. The aim of tailoring at Oliver Spencer is to make you feel good, look good and be at ease, clothes that help you settle into a life where weekends now mean more than just kicking back at home. While all of our styles tick the wearability factor, we have plenty of options for you to choose from this summer season.
Linen, the coolest fabric in town
Arguably the unofficial summer fabric, linen can sometimes be overlooked here in the UK. Should you live somewhere warmer then you’ll know far too well about the qualities of linen that helps keep you super cool due to its breathability, not forgetting to mention its low-environmental impact. That’s not to say it can’t have its day in the sun at home too. Picture this: it’s a hot weekend in June, it’s your first wedding invite of the season and you arrive in a one-button unlined suit that’s been cut in Italian linen. The coolest guest of the bride and groom.

Double(breasted) or quits
If like us you have missed an excuse to dress up, then doubling down by going double-breasted will rekindle all sorts of feelings. Unlike linen or some of our other suit options, this definitely isn’t low key. Head turns are inevitable, enviable ones at that. If you can’t wear a double breasted jacket after a year of lockdown, when can you? We think we’ve hit just the right tone with our collaboration with MR PORTER.

Consider us suckers for seersucker
Seersucker, a bit like linen, is designed to keep you feeling cool. It also happens to look fantastic when used in a suit. A seersucker crumple is on top of the menu when getting your wardrobe fit for summer. It’s light on the body, due to the way in which it’s made and all those little dimples you see, well they are acting as small little air pockets. We are nothing, but functional here at Oliver Spencer. Lightweight, louche and ready to grace summer barbecues.

Pick and mix
We do not blame you if you’re feel like you don’t want to be jumping in on the deep end when it comes to tailoring. A full year of hoodies and cuffed bottoms can do that to you. There are still ways to stay in line with a host’s dress code without wearing a two-piece. Putting together separates can be a great way of utilising more of a wardrobe. A soft blazer in a cotton/linen blend, paired with drawstring trousers for that familiar comfortability, keeps one foot in both camps: the post-lockdown formal extravaganza and reformed dress codes that prioritise loose comfort.
