Later this week you'll get to see a sneak peak of our Autumn 24 collection, which involved taking a vintage Land Rover Defender down to the Isle of Wight on a four-day road trip/staycation. There's something really special and very British about throwing a load of kit into the back of a Defender and heading out with the bare bones of a plan and not much else to go on. Whatever you might say about the new Defenders, the originals feel battle ready and open to adventure (rather than merely the school run). They are unique characters, with their own engine feel, and while they might not be the most comfortable of conduits, they are a hell of a lot of fun to explore in.
A Roam at Home in the Defender
We took the opportunity to sneak into the trip some of our current Summer collection too because let's be frank - the summer in the UK hasn't even got started yet and it's nearly August! With no styling agenda other than 'we're on the road in a Defender', we put together some travel-friendly fits for a late summer staycation, focusing on super comfortable and easy-to-style combinations that riffed on an understated colour palette, and that boasted bags of texture.
If there was any critical thinking to be done, it revolved around clever layering, so building outfits that would be comfortable in the car, but which you could throw over a blouson or blazer for a lunch break at a pub on the South Downs. Short-sleeve shirts over tees, or lightweight crew necks paired with unstructured jackets for those unfathomably chilly days.
Relaxed fit shorts and trousers are non-negotiable when driving - nothing worse than a slim-fit pair of pants riding up your backside or gathering uncomfortably. Our drawstring and pleated styles are the perfect cut and dress up really well when you need them to. Button-down shirts or grandad collar styles are always in the bag, as well as one or two soft jersey tops for when you want a slightly preppy and effortless look for a picnic on the bonnet.
Come and rejoin the road trip tomorrow when you'll get to see the rest of the journey, plus a glimpse at some of our favourite garments from new Autumn 24 collection, which is full of beautiful Fall fabrics and tones, as well as a host of new textures to enrich your wardrobes with.
