Oliver Spencer's Spring/Summer Trousers

Oliver Spencer's Spring/Summer Trousers

If you've been following the Oliver Spencer brand for a while, you'll know that we produce a small number of perennial trouser silhouettes each season. Fabrics change of course, but the rudimentary designs that make up our trouser styles remain the same, which gives you the assurance that you know what you're buying from one season to the next. Each one of our trouser styles has a different character, and yet all are very easily assimilated into a modern casual and smart-casual wardrobe. If you're in any doubt about how to style them or the particular fits then read on!

The Wide-Leg Trouser

A recent addition to our trouser collection, the Orsman trouser is a wide-leg style inspired by the Oxford bags of the 1920s. Back then the voluminous trousers represented something of a rebellious fashion statement, but today the wide-leg trouser is pretty ubiquitous. Granted, its proportions are not as wild as its predecessors, but it nevertheless shakes up the modern menswear silhouette, with the legs, by default, creating the appearance of a narrower waist. Summer fabrics such as linen and cotton are perfect for this trouser shape as they allow for movement and fluidity. Cut with a high waist and single pleats to maintain a neat shape about the hips, this season's Orsman trousers are really versatile, able to be worn with smart tailoring as well as relaxed shirts and jersey.

The Drawstring Trouser

They don't get more versatile than our modern classic drawstring trousers. Cut straight in the leg for a relaxed fit, the drawstring trouser sits at the waist and features a comfortable mid-rise. Full length in the leg, they also work really well worn with a roll-up or two. The organic cotton styles have an easy structure about them, while the linen varieties have a looser, lighter silhouette that is ideal for the summer. The drawstring closure ensures that they are supremely comfortable, and gives you that assurance of fit if your waist size fluctuates slightly (because whose doesn't?!). The drawstring trouser pairs best with casual looks, being a great foil for our lightweight jackets. The straight-leg finish means that the drawstring trouser will also complement virtually every shoe style from rugged boots to summer sandals.

The Fishtail Trouser

The smartest pair of the bunch, our flat-fronted fishtail trousers are the most natural complement to our tailoring if you're looking for a classic silhouette. The fishtail moniker comes from the band detail at the rear of the trousers (featuring a small notch for comfort), which references classic tailored trousers of the days when men would routinely wear braces. Our fishtails are a modern approach to smart trousers, cut with a more fitted silhouette than any of our other styles. The gradual yet subtle taper creates a svelte shape all the way down from the hips to the ankle, but if you want a slimmer shape then simply iron in a front crease. Most noticeable with the fishtail trousers is the front ticket pocket detail, which features a flap closure with a button, making them uniquely Oliver Spencer. They're a great trouser style to wear with any of our blazers and jackets, or simply with a relaxed summer shirt and loafers. If your wardrobe veers to a slightly smarter aesthetic, then the fishtails have your name on them.

The Pleated Trouser

This season at Oliver Spencer, we have created a trio of trousers with single pleats. Pleats serve a dual function: on the one hand they provide a nice aesthetic detail, while from a functional aspect they help to create a neater silhouette around the hips, which is especially useful when the trouser shape is loose and roomy, as with our aforementioned Orsman trousers. The other styles with single pleats are our belted trousers, which feature a gradual taper and as the name suggests, come with a configured belt fastening; and our Morton trousers which feature a flattering straight-leg shape. Both styles traverse the smart-casual spectrum with ease.
